University of Kent women's football club match events shoot

During a video editing session a few weeks ago, I found that the footage we captured of the practice match during the University of Kent women's football club training shoot was not suitable to use for demonstrating the football events, such as throw-ins, goal kicks etc. For starters, the match did not take place on a proper pitch, and also the shots of these events were not that good. Some were filmed at a bad angle, some included camera wobble, and some were blocked by other players. I therefore decided to schedule another shoot during which these events were to be re-captured during an actual University of Kent women's match which took place today. We managed to re-capture these events at good angles including a few goals! There were no penalties in the match, but we can use the penalty kick footage we captured in the training shoot instead as this came out very well.

Major design change in progress and Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School shoot ticked off

During the first supervisor meeting after Christmas last Thursday (11th January) we demonstrated our design prototypes. Ania thought that our application's navigation was too static and not very innovative. It was suggested that we add an element of rotation, such as around the inside of a football stadium. This would add more of a virtual and interactive environment so that the different sections of the application could be included together in the same space, instead of them being independent screens. We decided to take this approach on board and develop this stadium panning idea. A new prototype is currently being constructed for the next supervisor meeting in a fortnight's time.

Today we had the Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School football club shoot. Thankfully the weather was on our side and on a clear sunny afternoon we captured around 10-15 minutes of footage of the year 7 team training. The year 8s (our target user group) do not train until later on in the week, but this is fine because the sole purpose of this shoot was just to collect any footage of club just to give users an idea of what it is like at the club. Filming the correct age group was not important.

Another perception quotes shoot!

We had our first video editing session yesterday. Instead of both working together on the same footage, we decided to speed up the editing process by each working seperately on different footage at the same time. I am currently working on the perception quotes shoot footage, and Samantha the Mark Patterson interview footage.
I found that 7 perception quotes shots needed re-filming. One of these was filmed outside at dusk and so the lighting was poor. The others were started whilst I was asking the question and so part of this was cut off. We will therefore be having a second perception quotes shoot on Friday 12th January 2007 to re-film these.

Video shoots update

Since having to drop the Canterbury Eagles Football Club from the club profile section due to the change of the project's target age range, I recently received the details of Simon Langton Girls' Grammar School football club. Thankfully, this means that we are now back to having 4 clubs to feature in the application. They also granted us permission to capture pictures and footage of the club, so this means another video shoot! This has been arranged for Monday 15th January 2007 at 12:50pm.

Over Christmas there was a change of plan for the filming of referee hand signals for the rules section. It was originally decided that the coach of the University of Kent women's football club would demonstrate them, but Samantha knew a student who is an actual referee. He is happy to help us out. The benefit of filming him instead is that he has refereeing equipment, and so the shots will look more professional.
I realised that this video shoot had not been included in the project plan. This will be added.

The Montgomery School girls' football club shoot has had to be pushed forward a week from Tuesday 23rd to Tuesday 30th January 2007 as the head of P.E. has to attend a course.

Time to update the project plan....
